Konecta Sets Science-Based Targets for Low-Carbon Future
We are proud to have set a science-based target, positioning us in the low-carbon transition.
What are ‘science-based targets’?
Science-based targets provide a clearly-defined pathway for companies to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, helping prevent the worst impacts of climate change and future-proof business growth.
Targets are considered ‘science-based’ if they are in line with what the latest climate science deems necessary to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement – limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
How our trip began?
Demonstrating our commitment to building a sustainable future, through the creation of a sustainable and responsible growth model thinking about future generations and, taking into account all our stakeholders, we began by calculating our global carbon footprint (for all the scopes) for the whole Group.
To do this, we created different workshops in which we established common criteria for measuring and gathering the information.
With all the data collected and, following the criteria established by SBTi, we defined our objectives.
What is our target?
KronosNet Topco, SL (Konecta) committed to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 54.6% by 2033 from a 2022 base year.
KronosNet Topco, SL (Konecta) also committed to reduce scope 3 GHG emissions from employee commuting and business travel 61.1% per employee within the same timeframe.
How have we got here?
Without the commitment and help of all the areas involved we could not have gotten here.
It has been a constant work of collecting inventories and information (both qualitative and quantitative) from all the sites that will now allow us to have a much clearer starting point.
Next steps?
We are working on a detailed reduction plan that allows us to achieve these objectives with three basic pillars: energy efficiency, renewable energy, as well as sustainable mobility.
